Nature Unknown

I can't really say what this is.

It's metal, painted black. Weaved wire mesh. Somewhat flexible, but not flimsy.  About two inches square. Your guess is as good as mine.

Found in "How To Win At Nintendo" by Jeff Rovin. Published by St. Martin's Press, 1989.

Hm. A vent cover?

That looks like the guard for a small speaker to me.

reminds me of what I clean lint off of in my hair dryer. It's located on the back where the air gets sucked in.

Well now, that IS rather odd to find in a book....but I suppose it works as a bookmark as good as anything. ^_^

Fly swatter innards? I vote hair dryer filter.

Bizarre, until I saw Kimberly's comment - I bet it's a hairdryer filter :-)

I'm on TeamHairdryerScreen too!! That was my first thought.

If it were smaller I would have guessed the screen in a faucet. It could be a screen/filter for any number of things.

I'd guess either a speaker cover or a patch for a window screen.

Maybe they stuck it in the book to remind them to repair the speaker or the screen and forgot about it!

Looks to me like someone managed to cut the top off of a microphone and flatten it out. I also agree that it might be the mesh cover from a small speaker.

It looks like a piece of wire gauze used in laboratories to hold things above bunsen burners.

Some people put that little screen in the bowl piece of their marijuana pipe to keep little pieces of bud from falling through the hole and hitting them in the back of the throat.

It looks exactly like the solder plates jeweler's use.

It looks exactly like the screens jewelers use to solder on.

I think it's a custom fit pipe screen...especially being found in a Nintendo book. They used to sell more of the kind that you cut out the shape that you need.
