Full Disclosure

This day had to come eventually. I was going through one of my bookshelves recently, and came across my own forgotten bookmark. This is a note for me from my Dad, written around 1996 or so, if I had to guess:

Hi Mike

GOOD DAY FOR:
• Sealing the gutter trouble spots
• If painter is not coming, bank dirt high up wall, do all you can to divert water. There is perforated pipe under deck. Put them under the dirt first. No floods this year!
• Painting the back room.

Found in my copy of "Catch 22" by Joseph Heller. Published by Dell, 1971.

  1. Sooo... did you get it all done? Or did you kick back in a sunny spot and read your book?

  2. I don't even remember what project this could have been, to be honest. He talks about 'the painters' and I can't recall ever hiring painters, as I was usually the one up on the ladder with a bucket of paint.

  3. I thoroughly enjoy that your "to do" list starts with "A Good Day For"...maybe I will change my to-do list to that!

  4. Moonshadow beat me to it. I was going to ask if you were able to accomplish everything on that list. It sounds pretty daunting to me. I would have sat in the sunny spot with a book. ;)

  5. Oh my goodness - I love it. My Dad totally would leave us kids notes like that too. My favorites were when we would stay home sick from school and he would leave out notes like, "If you're feeling better, take the dog for a walk and do your laundry - haha." Very cool.

  6. Loved this one, and of course I had to come running over to see if you ever did your chores =)

  7. 'Good day for...'

I like that note. There a myth that men can't process prosody or hints, as if they were robots or something, and I always say it's a dirty lie.

  8. Curiosity got the best of me, I asked my Dad if he remembered. He recalls that the list was for the building that's now the bookstore (back then it was half books, half furniture). I did indeed finish the list, but probably not all that day.
