Yet another "appropriate" find! :-) I can't post a comment using my Wordpress ID - have found this on several blogger blogs that I follow :-(

Some of your younger readers may wonder why the recipe is printed in blue. In the days before photocopiers, duplicating machines were used in offices and schools. Most of the ink was this blue color.

The blue/purple "ink" was produced on what was commonly known as a ditto machine. It didn't actually use ink. As a matter of fact, in a pinch, rubbing alcohol and standard carbon paper would work. The technical name was spirit duplicator. Those that remember this process know the smell then recognize the print. BUT there were also colored sheets and even black but they did print as dark. Before getting my first computer I picked up a ditto machine at a 2nd hand store and used it in doing my genealogy research. http://theyalwayscomeback.blogspot.com/2008/02/ditto-machine.html
