The Call Of Duty

I think today's find is a great one; I'll let the pictures do the talking:

The caption on the last photo reads:

Flotilla-1101
With Division Officers
July 27-42
U.S.C.G.A.

No other writing on any of the photographs.

Found in "The 1943 Harvard Album" published by Harvard University.

In case you're interested, the class of 1943 included Norman Mailer:

  1. Have you found the identity of the man in the pictures? It saddens me that these pictures aren't with family members.

  2. I wonder if this CG Officer's family has any of these photographs.

  3. I actually do know the identity of the man, I purchased a large lot from an auction house in the Albany, NY area a few months back. The man had passed away, and there were no living relatives to claim any of his belongings, so the books went to auction and then to me.

  4. These are great! Can't wait until I find books filled with old pictures. I know I will. I'm bound to.

  5. What wonderful pictures. I'm glad they went to you instead of someone who would have just thrown them away.

  7. I'd love to help you link photos such as these on Ancestry. While he may not have any living relatives, he may have some more distant ones who would love to add these to their family tree. Feel free to contact me if you're interested.
