Recovery - contest closed

Good morning all. I'm not quite sorted out from yesterday's mess, so a new bookmark will have to wait another day. Instead, I'm happy to offer up a giveaway:

"The Works of Edgar Allan Poe" in ten little volumes (they measure 4 inches by 7 inches). Published by John Hovendon, circa 1902. I know there's only nine in the photos, I left one on the shelf. Trust me, I have all ten.

Contest closed to entries, back with a winner in a few minutes.

  1. I'd love to give those a home. There's nothing like reading Poe on a cold, windy day while sipping some black bitter tea.

  56. My hubby just happened to stumble upon this site, and I began commenting with the best intentions of earning myself Poe, but I read the post below first and wanted to offer my condolences for the incredible amount of damage ya'll sustained. It's akin to losing family members, when you lose books (especially older ones with a history of their own) that you have a relationship/history with. One alternative, in lieu of throwing the remnants of the damaged books away (if that is indeed what you intend) is to sell them/donate them either to a community college art program, or attempt to sell them on craigslist/ebay. There is quite a few people making their living by making original journals (both blank & lined) by rebinding blank notebooks with covers of antique books, the more damage & character the better. Chin up! It will get better!

First of all, cheers for this amazing blog. I'm thrilled with it. You really have such a lovely dream job :)

I realised your store went through a disaster after reading below. I'm terribly sorry for your loss and I hope you will be back on your feet soon.
I think it's kind of you to still give these books away, may they be given to a good owner. Poe is an amazing author.

  69. Oh... just what I need... says the Poe collector in me. :) I've aleady got the two volumes (supposedly complete works) of Poe published by Library of America, and a single volume anthology that leaves out all his non-fiction but has done a fair job compiling all the poetry and fiction.
