  5. What a wonderful surprise to see the name of my hometown on Forgotten Bookmarks today. Once a thriving mill town, with linen companies and the American Thread yarn cos., it never really recovered when then mills went south and then overseas. It was a wonderful place to have a childhood, even if it never lived up to it's "Romantic Willimantic" nickname.

If you visit, be sure to see what they've made the mills into (housing, studios, etc.), look for the Frog Bridge and the Hotel Hooker (not those kinds), tour the Victorian homes, have a Hosmer Mountain soda, and listen to the local a.m. radio station WILI 1400.
