I can imagine this couple going out on a ride in the country, stopping somewhere and having a picnic lunch. After desert, they share reading the book together. Perfect end to a perfect day!

I love your blog for the things you find, but also for the old, old books. I have several research books I've collected that are all 1900 or earlier. Just something about the feeling I get when I open them and wonder how many other hands over the years have touched them, how many others have read them.

Wish I could wander through your store.

ah. Dumas. So many hours spent with him. Don't have a good copy of The Count of Monte Cristo, but have loved many a copy of Three Musketeers and The Man in the Iron Mask.

ps. I bought a 1970s gardening book solely because I found a picture in it. Forgotten Bookmark inspired.

I cannot resist 1. A book I love;
2. Especially one pre-owned with the pages creased to mark a favorite passage or stained with fingerprints and tea; 3. A memento of who the reader/owner was translated in bookmarks and scribbled margin notes. Nice find even nicer of you to part with this.

Wow, okay, consider me entered! That is a stunning book, and the photograph is just the icing on the cake. Both from a period I have gotten to know very well recently (been researching the Victorian/Edwardian period for my latest YA).

I've said it before, but I'll say it again, just love your site. Simple idea, but magical.

What a great giveaway - I remember reading Count for the first time in 5th grade (and my teacher refusing to believe I'd read it over a 3-day weekend). LOVE that book.

A glamerous photo in a fabulous book! Wish I could meet the person who put the pic in there. I'd settle for taking care of them on my bookshelf...
