Violets

Silk ribbon with an illustration of a violet drawn in. I'm guessing drawn, I see no stitch marks or anything similar... but then again, I am not an expert on 19th century textiles.

Found in "Winston's Cumulative Loose-Leaf Encyclopedia Volume II - Bay Of - Chalcis" edited by Thomas Finegan. Published by Winston Co., 1926.

  1. Hi,

    Love the site.

These don't look quite like violets. The leaves are wrong, and violets usually grow one blossom to a stem.

Given the color and the clusters of blossoms, they could be forget-me-nots.

Oh, while I'm here, what made you stop posting photos of the books? That made it more fun, especially when the books were so marvelously antique!

  2. Hey Mary - I call them violets only because that's what was written on the back (although it didn't show up in the can I took). I'll include the books from now on.
